The competition
Open to all classes, all ages and other dance organisations, but under the auspices of the World Dance Council AL and PL.
Take part
The Amstel Dance Trophy is open to all classes and all ages, from junior to senior and from beginner to masterclass. The competition is organised under the auspices of the World Dance Council. Dancers who are members of another federation are welcome to take part.
There are twenty-eight categories. You do not need to go through them here: when you register on the WDC site you will see which category suits you.
Registration does not run through this site, but through the WDC. On dancemasters.nl you will find the competition and the entry form. There you enter your own federation and class yourself.
After the competition, Kyle Taylor from England gives a workshop, from 18:30 to 20:00. He is also a judge that day and bases the workshop on what he has seen on the floor. There is room for a maximum of fifty people, and sandwiches and soup are included. A separate ticket is needed for this.
The floor is parquet. Ladies and followers dance with caps on their heels. Be careful with wax, oil and above all with water. A dance shop will be present where you can buy caps and brushes. You are responsible for any damage to the floor and to other objects inside CanDance.
The judging panel
All judges are recognised by their own federation and are invited in a personal capacity.
FDO trainer
Grew up in the dance school his mother founded more than 65 years ago and took it over 25 years ago. A former top dancer among amateurs and professionals, fully FDO-qualified and authorised to train dance teachers. Looks above all at footwork, technique and dancing as one unit.
WDC judge
A dance professional with many years of experience in the Latin and salsa world. Certified coach and FDO trainer, board member of the Dutch Association of Dance Teachers and international judge with the World Dance Council.
Ballroom and Latin finalist
Has been dancing since the age of fourteen and reached finals among both amateurs and professionals. Earned her FDO diploma at 24 and has coached competition couples ever since. Looks at musicality, expression, technique and above all at dancing together.
Chairman of Buldo and FDSF
Six Belgian titles among amateurs and professionals, and several semi-finals at European and World Championships. Chairman of the Belgian professional federation for dance teachers. As a judge with the WDC and WDC-AL he looks at musicality, technique, movement and floorcraft.
Ten-time champion of China
Ten years in a row Chinese professional champion in ballroom and ten dance. Reached the finals of the Professional Rising Star at the UK Open, Blackpool, Japan Open, German Open and more. Values authenticity, musicality and the connection between dance partners.
Sixteen-time champion of Germany
Started ballet in Cologne at the age of seven. Sixteen-time German professional champion in the standard dances and the show dance, with three world runner-up titles and one European runner-up title. For her, music and the partnership between the dancers are the heart of dancing.
Multiple champion of Belgium
Dansschool Ekkart organised the Cinderella Cup for many years, with international entries and a live orchestra. Multiple Belgian professional champion in Latin, standard and ten dance, with a Fellow diploma in standard and Latin. Trainer and examiner for the Buldo diplomas, and as Walter Laird’s partner she gave congresses in the Netherlands and Germany. In couples she looks at confidence when they take the floor, technique, recognisable rhythms, the character of the dance and the connection between the partners.
FDO examiner
A specialist in training dance teachers. Alongside the FDO diploma he took various English examinations and passed Highly Commended. He is mentioned in the technique books of Donnie and Heidi Burns. He had a successful career as an amateur and professional dancer and now judges in both.
Hosting
Worked his way up from manager to owner at the dance schools of Marcel and Ratna de Rijk. Has hosted competitions from the Dutch Open to the Open World Championships in Paris, Dublin and South Africa. On 6 February he supports the hosting.
Marcel van de Kruk is the scrutineer and takes care of the results. Serge van Rooij plays the music as DJ. First aid and competition management are also on site.
